Relay for Life

The Tippecanoe County Relay for Life will be held Friday night through Saturday morning at the track at Jefferson High School. This is a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. It is also a way to honor survivors and pay tribute those who have lost their battle.
The American Cancer Society is looking for people in Tippecanoe County to help researchers understand how genetics, the environment, and lifestyle can cause or prevent cancer. It is called the CPS-3 study. It will involve about 300 people locally and 500,000 nationwide. Anyone who is between 30 and 65 years old, who has never been diagnosed with cancer, and is willing to make a long-term commitment to the study can sign up from 6:30p.m. - 10:30p.m. at the Relay For Life. At enrollment, you will need to complete a brief survey, provide a waist measurement and give a small blood sample.

Taste of Tippecanoe

This year's Taste of Tippecanoe may be one for the record books. People were waiting to get in before the gates opened at 4:00p.m. Saturday. The streets filled quickly with people enjoying food from nearly 40 different restaurants and music from seven different stages. WLFI set up our mobile news operation on Main Street near Second Street. Our engineering and production staff did a great job of setting up all the equipment.

We did an hour long newscast from the Taste. We had reporters in West Lafayette with information on the family area and the gospel stage. On the Lafayette side, Niccole and Jeff were up on the stage, while Mike Prangley, Mike Cleff, Renetta DuBose and I were along Main Street.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello. The food and music were great. My son loved the fireworks and the glow-in-the dark toys.

Pain at the Pump

Gas prices jumped 30 cents today. Yikes! I pulled up to the pump at a station in West Lafayette this morning and the price was $3.89 a gallon. As I was filling the tank, the attendant changed the sign to $4.19. My heart sank. Do you think we'll ever see gas for $2.00 again?
Our reporters are talking to people about how higher gas prices are impacting them. Stay tuned and feel free to share your stories.

More staff changes

WLFI-TV said goodbye recently to two staff members, Jessica Payne and Gage Butterbrodt. Jessica covered the Tippecanoe County government beat for us. She spent about two years with us and left because her husband has a new job out of state. Gage has been a part of our sports team for 9 years. Gage took a job outside of the broadcasting profession, but you will see him around the Lafayette area!
We introduced our new evening anchor a couple of weeks ago. Niccole Caan comes to us from our sister station, WANE-TV. Stay tuned for more changes. We will have someone new joining our sports and news staff soon to replace Jessica and Gage.
